What stance should be taken in regards to the issue of colonialism? We should neither be excessively vague or attempt to come up with some all-encompassing solution that delves into every minutiae.
It is easy to state in abstract that one ‘stands for’ the rights of indigenous Australians, and without substantiation this means little – all but the most overtly chauvinist political parties and groups will make at least some statements of this nature. But there will always be a level of vagueness associated with general declarations of principles, which cannot entirely be avoided. The content of which becomes more fleshed out in the form of theoretical texts and through the process of activity and praxis. Through our stated principle of supporting the national liberation of Indigenous communities we continue in the finest traditions of Marxism-Leninism. The destruction of the disparate Indigenous nations was not only a devastating genocidal process but a brutalisation that continues to this day as Indigenous Australians continue to suffer from targeting by police, harassment and violence. The destruction of Indigenous Australians ability to reproduce their social conditions of life leaves many population centres with a greatly decreased life expectancy, much higher rates of deaths of despair and lower living conditions.
At the present time we are incapable of addressing with sufficient depth the myriad issues facing the Indigenous community, what we can do is draw inspiration from our historical ideological forebears and put forward a call of solidarity along with a general program of economic revitalisation with a specific focus on the plight of the most disadvantaged populations. Getting a proper understanding of the whole issue would require exhaustive study of the exact conditions – something that will be a very long, multifaceted process – but that does not preclude one from standing in solidarity with those who have been and continue to fight against our shared class enemies; International imperialist power and the social-democratic bourgeois state that serves its bidding.
Australia as a polity does not have to reflect ethno-cultural exclusivity. Reactionaries seek to portray Anglo culture as being the only true element of this country, we could not disagree more. We stand forthrightly against the racialist, reductionist positions of the Right. It is only through standing in socialist fraternity with the Indigenous population that we truly become worthy of this land and pick up the mantle of constructing a socialist republic.
Our general principles are intended to encourage local communities to organise and experiment, for us to dictate blanket specific policy from the centre would be counter-intuitive and produce negative results.
